Blue Lions to roar?

Lampard’s faith in Chelsea’s youth academy has seen a change in the club’s culture this season, with quality selected over reputation. This has allowed the likes of Tomori and Abraham to be playing regular first-team football for Chelsea, which would not have happened under previous managers. Abraham is currently the top English striker in the Premier League ahead of Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford with a total of 7 goals. Tomori, on the other hand, has been given a chance at centre back due to injuries to Rudiger. Even with such experienced defenders around him, Tomori has arguably been Chelsea’s best defender and even chipped in with a worldie of a goal.

Chelsea’s youth has impressed fans at the bridge with their performances and they have also impressed Gareth Southgate. Southgate has selected both youngsters to represent England in their upcoming qualifiers. Tomori has a very good chance of starting due to a lack of quality at the heart of the England defence. Michael Keane has not shone since his move to Everton and has been average in an England shirt and Joe Gomez is currently playing second fiddle to Matip at Liverpool. Since Tomori has been starting and playing well for Chelsea, it wouldn’t be a surprise for Tomori to make his debut and commit his future to England.

Likewise with Abraham, with his nationality in the balance and Nigeria hoping to secure his future, Gareth Southgate will hope Abraham doesn’t pull out of the squad and make his competitive debut for England. Abraham has been a revolution since returning to the bridge and has scored goals for fun, something a Chelsea striker has found hard to come by since Diego Costa. Costa was a brute and bullied defenders, however, Abraham has pace and skill and a knack for being in the box at the right time. This has seen him been chosen ahead of World Cup winner Giroud and Michy Batshuayi. Abraham has repaid Lampard’s trust in him with seven goals in the league and will now hope to open his account for England.

The young blues have made an impact with Chelsea and will now hope to have similar impacts with England.
