Chelsea travel to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon to take on the current reigning champions. This fixture last year produced a convincing 6-0 slaughtering of Chelsea by Pep’s team with Sergio Aguero scoring a hat-trick. City outshone a lacklustre Chelsea team that was under-performing with Sarri at the helm of the Blues and struggling for confidence. Since this battering, Chelsea have changed managers and have completely revolutionised their style of play with youth playing a major role at the club. This Saturday will show how far Chelsea have come or how far behind they still are from City and Liverpool.
Christian Pulisic looks set to miss out at the weekend due to a hip injury picked up before the International Break. Ross Barkeley , Toni Rudiger and Loftus-Cheek also are major doubts for this fixture but Lampard does have a fit N’golo Kante at his disposal if he decides to use the frenchman. Kante has been struggling for full fitness since the Europa League final against Arsenal and Lampard has been reluctant to rush Kante back but may select him from the start.
City have a number of injury concerns as well leading up to the weekend. Laporte, Zinchenko and Sane are all out but Ederson might just be back in time after recovering from a muscular injury. Bernado Silva is suspended for the match after an alleged racist tweet which the FA banned and fined the player for.
With Chelsea and Man City sitting third and fourth respectively, Saturday is an intriguing match for the neutral. Chelsea have become a well liked team with Lampard in charge and Pep’s City play some of the most attractive football in the World. With both teams chasing down a gap to runaway leaders Liverpool, Saturday is a must win for both teams. A draw only suits Liverpool so expect both teams to be pushing for the three points.
